Shehbaz directs measures to cope with rains, floods

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the departments concerned that all necessary arrangements should be made to cope with monsoon season and possible floods and the Cabinet Committee on Flood should keep a close contact with Meteorological Department and obtain latest information regarding weather situation on daily basis.
The Chief Minister said the departments concerned should remain alert and provincial and federal institutions should work in a coordinated manner. He said that best arrangements should be made this year as well to meet any emergent situation.
The Chief Minister further asked the departments and institutions to perform their duties with effective coordination and told the departments to evolve an emergency plan with regard to rains and possible floods.
The Chief Minister said that construction and repair work of embankments be completed as soon as possible. He said that he would personally monitor precautionary arrangements against monsoon and floods.
He asked the Health Department to make stock of medicines in abundance especially anti-venom vaccine for the treatment of snakebite.
Shehbaz Sharif asked the Civil Defense organization to remain active to meet any untoward situation. He said that inspection of embankments and spurs should be completed at the earliest and the cabinet committee should take indiscriminate action against those who illegally cause beaches in embankments. He further directed that modern methods be adopted for strengthening of embankments and spurs while de-watering sets should be in working condition.
