Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Tuesday chaired a meeting on Red Line Bus Rapid Transport project. He issued orders that public parks, sidewalks and trees will not be allowed to be cut down on the Red Line bus route under any circumstances. Shallwani further said that if there is a need to change the bus route to save public parks and sidewalks, it will be reviewed. Millions of Karachi residents will benefit from the 29.1 km long corridor of the Red Line bus, he viewed, adding the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will provide all possible assistance to the project. BRT project should be environmentally friendly and convenient for passengers in all respects. A biogas plant will be set up near KMC’s slaughter house in Landhi for the first biogas-powered public transport. Memorandum of Understanding on Installation of Biogas Plant for Red Line Bus will be signed soon. 22 stations will be built on the Red Line Rapid Transit route, the administrator said and added these stations can be attributed to different personalities on the basis of sponsorship.
