Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that respect for the womenfolk and protection of their rights is an important part of the tenets of Islam. No other society can give an example of the rights given by the religion of Islam to the women.
The role of the women in the process of national development is praiseworthy and the importance of their role in the development of Pakistan cannot be denied. It is equally true that no human society can be developed without first giving rights to the women.
In his message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Chief Minister said that dream of prosperity can be materialized by first empowering the women and observed that any injustice meted out with the women is equivalent to cruelty.
He said that provision of resources for empowering the women is a beneficial investment for the constitution of an enlightened society. He said that provision of redressal to the women affected by torture is an important priority of the government and added that PML-N government has taken practical steps to protect the rights of the women.
Giving details about different steps taken by the Punjab government for the welfare of the womenfolk, he said that effective legislation has been made to protect their rights as well as to eliminate the menace of torture in the society.
A state-of-the-art centre is working in the historic city of Multan to redress the complaints and to provide prompt justice to the needy women.
In this centre, all the facilities including police, prosecution, medical and forensic are available under one roof. This is one of its kind centre which helps to provide prompt justice by redressing the complaints.
In this regard, it is equally important that we all should fulfil our religious, social and moral obligations for the elimination of incidents of violation in the society. Today, we should also make a commitment to efficiently fulfil our socio-cultural duties in an amicable manner.
We should also reiterate our commitment that effective steps will be taken to eliminate the menace of violence against the women along with the protection of their rights at the grassroots, concluded the Chief Minister.
