Minutes after the court announced its decision in the Avenfield reference against Nawaz Shairf sentencing him to 10-years imprisonment, Pakistan Muslim League-N President Shahbaz Sharif rejected the decision terming it ‘unjust’ and “politically motivated”.
Addressing a press conference from party headquarters in Lahore, Shahbaz said the “decision will be written in dark annals of Pakistan’s history.” He announced to challenge the decision in high court.
“The timing of the verdict is an attempt to manipulate the election process,” asserted the former Punjab chief minister.
He said the court had ruled against Nawaz despite volume 10 of the Joint Investigation Team report failed to provide any evidence. “No proof was validated throughout the investigation,” he said.
Shahbaz blamed the National Accountability Bureau targeting the Sharif family while delaying cases worth billions.
The accountability court has announced its decision but there is another court; that of the public which will deliver its verdict on July 25, he said.
