Islamabad—A one-day seminar was held at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on the topic of the “Contours of the Contemporary Critical Theory”.
Omar Shaukat, Assistant Professor, IBA Karachi, spoke as the guest speaker, said a news release issued here on Monday.
The Rector NUML Major General (r) Zia Ud Din Najam was the chief guest and alongwith Director General NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, the event was attended by a large number of academicians, teachers, and students.
Omar took into account the evolution of different historic currents which led to the formation of current critical theory.
He also spoke about the relevance and value of critical theory in order to make sense of the issues and questions of our contemporary world. “For a broader and more inclusive conceptualization of our politico-national issues, we have to forge new critical perspectives unrestricted by the tunnel visions of our narrow loyalties”, said the speakers.
The Rector NUML Maj. Gen. Zia Ud Din Najam and Dr. Safeer Awan, Dean, Faculty and English Studies also spoke on the occasion and called for a better appreciation of theory for a more sustained understanding of the current issues and challenges.
The event was organized jointly by the Sophy Forum, NUML and Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue.
