Security arrangements require Ulema’s cooperation: DC

Deputy Commissioner Umer Jhangir on Friday stressed the need for utilizing all resources for maintaining religious harmony, brotherhood and peace during Muharram ul Haram.
He said while presiding over a meeting of district peace committee here at the Commissioner Office.
The meeting was attended among others by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Malleha Jamal, DSP city Asim, President Markazi Anjuman Tajran Shahid Ghafoor Paracha, eminent scholars of different sects including Qazi Zahoor,Shaukat Abass Jafari,Hafiz Iqbal Rizvi,Paster Pervaiz Sohail and officials of the district administration. The DC said security arrangements were underway and security in the entire district would be beefed up to maintain law and order during Muharram.
He said a foolproof plan would be evolved to monitor security arrangements during processions and public gatherings.
He said load shedding and cleanliness plans along procession routes would be formed and feedback and suggestions would also be obtained from citizens to improve the arrangements.
He said security arrangements by the administration could only be successful with the cooperation of Ulema and civil society. The Ulema and traders representatives also addressed the meeting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Malleha Jamal said maintaining religious harmony a task for religious scholars. She urged ulema in promoting religious harmony and unity during Muharram. “Sectarian unity is the need of the hour,” she added. She appreciated the cooperation of ulema and said that they are playing an invaluable role in maintaining religious harmony. Ulema also assured the DC of their commitment to maintain communal peace.—APP
