Media Commission’s recommendations
Islamabad—The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought implementation report on the Media Commission’s recommendations. The apex court bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan also took notice of not airing social messages on private TV channels and sought the implementation report on airing of social awareness programmes which were 10 per cent specified for all TV channels.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had banned family planning advertisements.
The PEMRA Chairman told the court that the authority was trying to stop abusive language in the talk shows. He had no powers as PEMRA Chairman according to rules. The media had been asked to ensure airing of 10 per cent programmes based on public awareness campaigns.—APP
