SC orders TCA to stop running unauthorized projects

Staff Reporter

The Karachi registry of Supreme Court stripped that Thar Coal Authority of infiltrating in other departments’ jurisdiction and ordered it to close down all those projects which have been running unauthorisedly. It directed that Authority had to confine itself to discovery of coal, processing, and mining. The remaining projects must be returned to relevant departments.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim issued the verdict after hearing a case relating to illegal recruitment in Thar Coal Authority. It took serious objections on the promotion of former Director General of TCA Danish Saeed to secretary level within a short period of ten years time.
The court ordered the Sindh chief secretary to submit report on the illegalities in execution of projects executed by the Authority. It declared illegal premature retirement of chief engineer Mohammad Ali Memon, and sought a report from Secretary, Services of the Sindh government on Danish Saeed.
The TCA was working on projects relating to road construction, Airport building and water supply, which are now to be returned to their respective departments.
