SA Speaker to be elected on Wednesday

The first session of the newly elected assembly of Sindh held here Monday was adjourned till Wednesday.
The adjournment was announced following the oath taking by 165 of the 168 elected members of the house during polls held on July 25.
During the session to be held on Wednesday Sindh Assembly members will elect Speaker and Deputy of the house, forms for the two posts were made available on conclusion of the first session of the current parliamentary year in the country.
Siraj Khan Durrani, speaker of the last provincial assembly has been re-nominated as the custodian of the current house by his party PPP, enjoying majority with a strength of 97 members, including 75 general seats, 17 women seats and five for minorities.
PPP is followed by PTI that managed to win 23 general seats and consequently five seats reserved for women and two for minority.
MQM with a strength of 21 seats including 16 general seats, four seats for women and one that of minority will be joining PTI in the opposition benches.
The opposition in the Sindh Assembly also includes 13 MPAs of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) including 10 general seats, two reserved for women and one for minority.
There are also three MPAs belonging to Tehreek e Labbaik, Pakistan and these include one elected on seats reserved for women and two directly elected on general seat.
Muttahida Majlis e Ammal (MMA) also has its single representation in the Sindh Assembly.—APP
