Islamabad—Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development And Transparency (PILDAT) on Monday released comparative performance report of the four provincial assemblies in the third parliamentary year i.e. 2015-2016.
Sindh Assembly’s performance remains highest at 68pc while Balochistan Assembly gets lowest score at 35pc Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assemblies tied for second place with scores of 66pc.
According to the PILDAT report Sindh and Balochistan Assemblies post highest attendance of members at 34pc each followed by KP Assembly at 32pc while Punjab cut a sorry figure at 13pc.
Sindh Assembly introduced most of the Private Members’ bills and the scored hovered at 9, KP and Punjab Assemblies introduced 1 each while Balochistan Assembly introduced none of the Private Members’ Bill. KP Assembly has been the only Pakistani legislature to transact all business in the House through Computers and modern IT facility.
Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif posts the lowest Assembly attendance i.e. 5pc Balochistan’s CMs Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and Dr Abdul Malik Baloch post highest combined attendance i.e. 59pc.
In the three parliamentary years, Balochistan Assembly failed to elect all the Chairpersons of Standing Committees and this also adds to negative performance of the assembly. Punjab Assembly passed the highest number of bills i.e. 46 followed by Sindh Assembly at 28pc, Balochistan Assembly at 23pc while KP Assembly passed 18 bills.
