S Asian bridge-building event begins in China

Over 30 senior media persons from 13 countries are participating

Kunming, China—The opening ceremonies of the Sixth South and Southeast Asian media tour and China South and Southeast Asia International Art week were held at the picturesque Kunming, the capital city of China’s south eastern Yunnan province on Saturday.
The Sixth South and Southeast Asian Mainstream Media tour kicked off at the Yunnan Convention Hall with a note that the journalist community was required to promote friendship, peace, love and brotherhood and bridge the gulf among their respective states. More than 30 senior media persons from 13 countries, including Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are taking part in the event which is mainly aimed at covering the 4th China-South Asia Expo and Kunming Import and Export Fair to begin on Sunday (today).
It was emphasised during the opening session that like friendship, the media was also beyond borders and could play a vital role in bringing an end to hostile feelings among the South and South Asian countries and ensuring conducive environment leading to the progress and prosperity of masses.
‘Kunming,’ in Chinese the language means Spring City, as it is called due to its extremely pleasant weather and hospitable nature of dwellers of the town, is rightly rated as tourist’s Paradise.
However, it has also become the hub of economic and literary activities and has successfully been hosting the China-South Asia Expo over the years.
Later, another significant event of China South and Southeast Asia International Art week and award ceremony for the distinguished writers from various countries under the auspices of China South Asia and South East Writers Forum in Kunming was held in Magnolia Hall of Yunnan convention and exhibition centre.
Eminent writers from China, Japan, Nepal, India, Bangladesh and other countries shared their views on the occasion and were also awarded in recognition of their valuable contribution towards Arts and literature.
Addressing a crowded press conference that was participated by both visiting and local journalists, in the afternoon Mr Gao Shuxun, the Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the government of Yunan Province, informed the media that they were attaching high hopes to the 4th China-South Asia Expo that it would go a long way in enhancing trade activities between China and the rest of the world.
Mr. Gao Shuxun, who is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Expo, said the 4th China-South Asia Expo and the 24th China Kuming Import and Export Commodities Fair was being held under the theme of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefits, Inclusiveness and Win-win Cooperation that is aimed to promote trade and economic exchanges between China, specially the Yunnan province, South Asia, Southeast Asia and rest of the world.
