Russian envoy discusses ‘regional security’ with Bajwa

Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Yurevich Dedov called on Chief of Army Staff Gen Bajwa on Tuesday and discussed matters related to regional security, a statement from the ISPR said.
The ambassador condemned the recent terrorist incidents in the country and expressed grief on behalf of his country and acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in fight against terrorism and initiatives for economic growth.
Ambassador Dedov appreciated the Pakistan Army for launching Operation Raddul Fasaad, saying it will play an important role in eliminating terrorism from Pakistan. He said the initiatives taken by Pakistan will boost economic growth.
The visiting ambassador condemned recent terror attacks in the country, saying Russia is aggrieved and acknowledges Pakistan’s efforts in its fight against terrorism.
While thanking Russia’s concerns for loss of precious lives in Pakistan and its military cooperation with Pakistan Army, Gen Bajwa said the enhanced ties between the two countries will have a positive impact on the regional security situation.
The Russian ambassador acknowledged Pakistan Army’s undeterred efforts in the fight against terrorism and commendable economic initiatives. Pakistan and Russia held their first-ever consultation on regional issues in December last year at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.
Relations between the two countries have been growing stronger since the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Pakistan in 2014. The two countries had at the time inked a bilateral defence cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military-to-military relations.
The visiting ambassador appreciated the launching of military operation Raddul Fasaad, the army launched after a series of terror incident in which over 100 people were killed and hundreds injured.
