Russia: Syrian Tel Abyad town attacked

Moscow—Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Sunday its coordination center in Syria had received information about an attack on the Syrian town of Tel Abyad from Turkish territory using large-caliber artillery, Interfax news agency reported.
Interfax cited the head of the coordination center as saying Russia had contacted a U.S. centre in Amman for clarification over shelling of Syrian territory from Turkey.
On Saturday, ISIS militants launched an assault on the town, prompting air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition to try to drive them back.
The hardline fighters attacked Tel Abyad, which is controlled by the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, and the nearby town of Suluk in the early hours of Saturday, YPG spokesman Redur Xelil and Turkish security sources told Reuters.—Reuters
