Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Rawalpindi collected over Rs 71 million from route permit fee during last fiscal year, 2017-18.
Talking to APP, Secretary RTA, Khalid Yameen Satti informed that total target for 2017-18 was Rs 56 million while the department succeeded to collect over Rs 71 million, over Rs 15 million extra to the target.
He further informed that the monthly target was over Rs 4.6 million while the department collected Rs 64,47,300 in July 2017, Rs 63,40,400 in August, Rs 47,01,650 in September, Rs 62,43,500 in October, Rs 58,17,950 in November and Rs 54,77,650 in December 2017.
Similarly, the Excise department also collected Rs 67,10,200 in January 2018, Rs 65,32,200 in February, Rs 68,71,550 in March, Rs 61,03,150 in April, Rs 63,73,750 in May and Rs 40,78,700 in June 2018.
To a question he said, total 497 vehicles were challaned including 14 for having substandard CNG cylinders and 211 which were without fitness certificates during last month while 136 were impounded.
He told fines amounting to Rs 5,11,300 were imposed on the violators. Public service vehicles without route permits or in poor condition are impounded and fined.
A number of smoke-emitting public transport vehicles plying different routes were also impounded, he added.—APP
