One-Day National Conference on ‘The Role of Saints in Promotion of Human Dignity and Religious Harmony’ was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur on Tuesday. The conference was organized by the Institute of Islamic Studies and was presided over by Dean, Faculty of Arts & Languages Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khuhsk.
Addressing the participants of conference, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khuhsk said that Tasawuf reflects the religion. He said, ‘by the promotion of Sufism, we can avail peace, tranquillity and harmony in our society’.
Dr. Khushk said that it is high time that the teachings, philosophy of Saints may be promoted at large in order to establish tolerant, egalitarian and enlightened society.
The chief guest Custodian of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Syed Waqar Hussain Shah Latifi said the holy shrines of the Saints are real source and concept of Islam. The shrines are the model of brotherhood, where there is no any discrimination of Hindu and Muslim. All the human beings are equal.
The human dignity and religious harmony were promoted by the Sufi Saints by virtue of their teaching and ideals, he added. Syed Waqar Shah said that first ever idea of global village was coined by Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai 300 years ago. It is high time that the human dignity, religious harmony may be promoted in order to bring tolerance in society, where in, all religions may exist in the shape of interfaith harmony.
The Custodian of shrine of Khuwaja Ghulam Farid, Kot Mithan Khuwaja Moeen-ud-Din Mehboob Koreja, said ‘our Sufis have veneration with human kind. In Sub-continent with the teaching of Khawaja Moeen-ud-Din Chishti Ajmeri approximately 90 lac Hindus embraced Islam. This is the glaring example of soft image of a Sufi Saint.’
He said, Sufis never declared Fatwas against any religion. The shrines of Sufi Saints are binding force in Pakistan for the promotion of peace, tranquility, harmony and brotherhood.
Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi Prof. Dr. Zahid Ali Zahidi, Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Sindh Jamshoro Prof. Dr. Muhammad Anwar Pathan, Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahid Indhar, Zain-ul-Aabideen Arejo, Qamar-un-Nisa Larik, Dr. Allah Wasayo Soomro, Dr. Sajid Ali Raeesi and others also addressed on the occasion.
Prof. Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, Prof. Dr. Amir Hussain Shar, Prof. Dr. Ikhtiar Ali Ghumro, Prof. Dr. Najma Noor Phulpoto, Dr. Sofia Yousuf Khushk, Dr. Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Sarfaraz Ali Korejo, Mukhtiar Begum, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Solangi and others attended the conference.—APP
