Roadmap prepared for cleanliness

Karachi—A roadmap has been prepared for upgrading the system for collection and disposal of garbage.
This was stated by Chairman of the District Municipal Corporation (DMC), Karachi, South, Malik Muhammad Fayyaz, on Sunday.
He stated that steps were being taken in DMC South for checking pollution and improving the required infrastructure.
Fayyaz was addressing a consultative session with the Managing Director of Sindh Solidwaste Management Board, A.D. Sanjani, Municipal Commissioner Afaq Saeed and chief sanitary inspectors of Saddar and Lyari zones.
He was of the view that usage of modern technology was vital for the proper disposal of garbage.
Director Sindh Solidwaste Management Board said increasing pollution cause various diseases including cancer.
He said in the DMC South garbage would be collected from every home.
Sanjani stated that the task of collection and taking to landfill site had been entrusted to a Chinese firm. The company was bringing in 70 percent new vehicles for the purpose.
He said under the agreement, work would commence in three months’ time.
He said our efforts were that the cleanliness should start from December 25.
The workers would be provided job protection and nobody would be deprived of employment, he added.—APP
