Rescue 1122 flood preparedness exercise concludes

Rawalpindi—The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122, flood preparedness exercise of seven districts of north i.e. Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Hafizabad, M.B Din, Gujranwala and Gujrat at Bela Pulli, Jhelum River concluded on Monday.
Earlier, the Director General Rescue 1122 Brig. (R) Dr. Arshad Zia reviewed all arrangements and briefed all District officers to ensure swift and prompt emergency response by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) so that flood rescue operation could be successfully managed to minimize the damage without any loss of life, says a press release issued here.
This exercise was conducted under supervision of Director General (DG) Punjab Emergency Service (PES) Brig (R) Dr. Arshad Zia, Assistant District Collector General (ADCG) Jhelum Imran Raza Abbasi and District Emergency Officer Jhelum Dr Faisal Mehmood to check preparedness level, response strategy and coordination of rescue teams with other departments to deal with any flood emergency in upcoming monsoon season.
Besides, Rescue 1122 teams from seven districts, representatives from
Health Department, Department of Agriculture, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Police, Falah Insaniyat Foundation and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) Jhelum participated in the exercise.
Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi team won the competition of victim evacuation from river Jhelum and received first prize while Rescue 1122 Gujrat left behind all teams in 40 Horse Power Boat Competition and received first prize.
The host team Rescue 1122 Jhelum won two first prize in two boat competition of 15 Horse Power and 25 Horse Power. The DG PES and ADCG Jhelum distributed prizes amongst the winning teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Imran Raza Abbasi said Rescue 1122 was doing great job and such joint exercises helped improve coordination between all stakeholders and resources might be made compatible with that of the challenge.
Brig (R) Dr. Arshad monitored exercise and appreciated the support provided by the District Administration Jhelum specially the presence of Imran Raza and AC Dina to conduct the whole exercise in an effective manner.
He congratulated to all the rescuers, community participants and government stakeholders for their high spirits to conduct real scenario based flood preparedness exercise and appreciated District Emergency Officers of participating districts for their participation to make the exercise successful.
The Director General Brig (R) Dr. Arshad monitored exercise and discuss in detail the expected shortfalls in real emergency. —APP
