Rawalpindi—The Punjab Emergency Service (PES), Rescue 1122 Wednesday commemorated ‘International Firefighters Day’ all over the province and all the District Emergency Officers (DEOs) on the directions of Director General (DG) PES, Brig. (R) Dr. Arshad Zia. Seminars, awareness activities and other events in remembrance of martyred firefighters of Rescue 1122 were held.
DG Emergency Services Academy (ESA) Brig. (R) Amir Hamza also arranged specialized lectures for under training cadets in ESA, says a press release issued here on Wednesday.
The experts in the field of firefighting delivered lectures about the importance of the day, modern trends in firefighting, role and responsibilities of firefighters in case of any untoward incident. Mock exercises related to firefighting and rescuing victims from collapsed structure were also organized.
DG Rescue 1122 and DG ESA received Flag March comprising of fire vehicles including Aerial Platforms, Turn Table Ladders, Fire Investigation Unit and others at Rescue 1122 Headquarters.
Brig. (R) Dr. Arshad Zia, Brig. (R) Amir Hamza and other senior officers participated in the flag march and awareness walk.
Addressing the participants, Brig. (R) Amir Hamza said that PES has established modern Fire Service and Disaster Emergency Response teams in the country in limited resources on modern line and rescuers have been trained with latest equipment and vehicles in ESA to maintain international standard. He said trained rescuers of Rescue 1122 are trend setters in the field of professional firefighting in Pakistan.
Dr. Arshad Zia paid rich tribute to the services of those firefighters, who sacrificed their lives. He said firefighters are the real heroes of the society and firefighting is a noble profession.
Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi also conducted an event to pay tribute to the fire fighters and show solidarity with international firefighters who take risk to provide sense of safety to the community. Ms Deeba Shahnaz, Emergency officer Headquarters, Engr. Hafiz Abdul Rasheed Emergency Officer, Rescue Safety Officer Ms Azra shahid, Asif Salyana Control Room Incharge, All Station Coordinators, Rescuers and fire fighters participated in the event. An awareness walk was arranged to sensitize the community. The fire rescuers and other rescue officials clothed in fire suits standing on fire vehicles raised slogans of fire safety.
The firefighters performed extension drill of Aerial ladder to check the operation activity with respect to high rise building. The rescuers also paid homage to the great heroes of the nation who laid their lives in line of the duty.
