Replacement of VCs

LAHORE High Court has given a ruling that four Vice-Chancellors at the Punjab University, Lahore College for Women University, University of Sargodha and Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology should be replaced. The court also ordered that senior most professor at the universities should assume duties of acting vice chancellor while the HEC should advertise the positions.
The court might have its own reasons to give this verdict, which stems from a petition moved by a citizen. However, there are sound reasons to consider the incumbent VCs during process of fresh selection especially in the case of Dr Kamran Mujahid, who has contributed immensely in introducing reforms of far-reaching importance in the Punjab University. Dr Mujahid is there since January 2008 and thanks to his untiring efforts, the institution has been able to regain its past glory and is now counted among one of the finest institutions of higher learning. All this happened because of varied professional and managerial experience of Dr Kamran Mujahid, who, apart from holding different positions at home also taught at the prestigious King Saud University in Riyadh. After assuming chairmanship of Physics Department of PU, he initiated a human resource programme winning 40 scholarships in Physics for students of the university in reputable universities of the world. He is author of 12 books, has 63 research publications to his credit and won numerous medals for his achievements include President’s Pride of Performance and Abdus Salam Award in Physics. It is because of his background and vision that Dr Kamran Mujahid laid emphasis on research, took initiatives for imparting of quality education and discouraged political activities. We believe that change for the sake of change would not serve any purpose and Dr Mujahid should be retained because of his unmatched experience and professional skills.
