Larkana—District Electoral Reform Group (DERG) under banner of Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) has organized one-day seminar aimed to reveal the charter of demands and recommendation for electoral reforms framed by DERG here Wednesday.
Leaders of mainstream political parties among PPP, PML-N, PTI, MQM and JUI-F attended the programme and shed light on electoral reforms and emphasized on following modern methods in elections to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in country.
MPA Khursheed Junejo addressing on the occasion said that we should bring reforms in prevailing system of Election Commission of Pakistan and streamline it with biometric system to put an end long standing outcry of rigging in polls.
Talking about the recent 22nd Amendment regarding the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and four provincial members, he said that Chief Election Commissioner should be elected from Rtired Judge of Supreme Court instead of 22 grade Bureaucrats or technocrats, besides he demanded the appointment of four provincial member of ECP be made by respective provinces according to 18th amendment.
He disclosed that there are several flaws in prevailing system of Election Commission of Pakistan. He said that there is need to protect the rights and entitlements of voters and candidates in a way as required by the country’s constitution, adding that strengthening institutional mechanisms that can led state socio-politically stability.
During the conventions the key findings of a survey regarding voters’ list, Project Manager M. Ali Abbasi shared delimitation process and polling schemes assessments of district Larkana with the participation.
