Records tumble for Pakistan

GREEN shirts are setting new records in Zimbabwe. Firstly, the national cricket team clinched the trilateral T-Twenty trophy by defeating the mighty Australia in the final and now on Friday, it posted the highest ever total of 399 runs in the fourth one day internationals against Zimbabwe with opener Fakhar Zaman becoming the first Pakistani batsman to score a double century. He smashed an unbeaten 210 off 156 deliveries, hitting five sixes and 24 boundaries, to post the highest individual ODI score by a Pakistani batsman surpassing 194 by Saeed Anwar against India, scored 21 years ago. In the same match, Fakhar and Imamul Haq also broke the record for Pakistan’s highest ODI partnership for any wicket.
Indeed with the induction of new blood, the performance of national cricket team has improved significantly and this is the reason that we have seen the green shirts also performing better and winning against Australia and England most recently. Then, the memories of the ICC champions trophy wherein Pakistan defeated India last year in the final are still fresh in our minds. With each passing day the team under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmad is showing much improvement in terms of performance and the entire nation expects the team to continue to perform in the same manner in the days ahead. It is after a long time that Pakistan has found a hard hitting but sensible opener in the shape of Fakhar Zaman. It will not be exaggeration to say that he is the best batting find after Saeed Anwar. Fakhar Zaman has impressed everybody both at home and abroad through his super performances both on slow and fast pitches. Then his partner opening batsman Imamul Haq, who is also a left handed batsman, has also shown the guts of a real opener reminding the days of those when Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail used to take the crease. Anyway it is time for the PCB and the national team to focus on the next world cup that is to be held next year in England. Before that, the PCB needs to find a couple of reliable and consistent middle order players and then prepare tour plans in such a manner that see the national team playing against the top ranking teams.
