Rawal dam’s spillways opened

Islamabad—A Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Rawal dam Friday said spillways of the reservoir had been opened as precautionary measure, keeping in view unexpected spell of the current rains.
According to a private television channel report, the spillways were opened on Thursday evening and the current water level in the dam was 1,751.6 feet. “We opened the spillways by 0.5 feet,” the reported quoted the SDO as saying.
At present the water release stood at around 1,700 cusecs downstream, which brought the water level back to storage capacity that was usually maintained between 1,750 to 1,751 feet of water, it added.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain-thundershower accompanied by strong gusty winds in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.—APP
