Rare books go missing from university library

Multan—Most of around 6,000 rare historic books donated by writers and poets to Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) have been missing from its central library, journalist and researcher Hanif Chaudhary claimed.
He said he had donated some 4,000 books on variety of subjects, including literature, history etc on motivation of former Dean of Languages and Chairman Urdu Department at BZU Dr Anwar Ahmed, which were not available with the BZU Central Library now. Similarly, he calimed that late journalist Wali Muhammad Wajid had also contributed another 2,000 books from his collection to the varsity, but most of them were also missing.
Hanif Chaudhary was speaking at the death anniversary of late journalist Wali Muhammad Wajid in a ceremony organized by Sokhunwar Forum here at Multan Arts Council’s ‘ Adbi Baithuk ‘. The journalist said the books were donated with the condition that the same would be placed at a separate corner of the library so that students and researchers could benefit from them, but only a few hundred were now available. He said the varsity administration should look into the matter.—APP
