Railways on right track

RULING PML (N) has released a white paper on the performance of Pakistan Railways highlighting that the revenue of the department soared to Rs 4.50 billion from Rs 1.40 billion over the last four years. There is no denying the fact that when the PML (N) took power, Pakistan Railways like some other organizations was in a pathetic condition and this was the reason that at the outset, the government also put this department in its privatisation list. As the government is close to completing its term, the situation in Railways stands much changed. We say so as due to improvement brought in the service; the people are again being seen choosing the rail for their travelling.
Credit for this definitely goes to the hard work put in by Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique who while assuming the charge of the Ministry did not make tall claims of changing the fortunes of Railways overnight but adopted the practical approach that the damage caused by years of neglect will require him some time to fix the problems. Four years down the road and the passengers satisfied with the service of Pakistan Railways are again turning to this most important mode of transportation for their long voyage. It is also a matter of satisfaction that the government has several development programs for the Railways including linking its rail to Europe via Turkey and Iran for cargo and passenger service, which definitely will ensure inexpensive transportation of import and export goods. The upgradation of ML-1 and other lines under the CPEC is the most important project which will help achieve higher speed of trains and faster movement of people and cargo from one place to another. We expect that these development projects will be completed with speed and Railways be equipped with modern wagons and latest engines so that our people could enjoy the train journey just as the one available to the people in developed especially European countries. This will also help Pakistan Railways multiply its revenues many a times and make it a truly profitable entity.
