Radio Pakistan playing vital role in national development: Siddiqui

Rawalpindi—Radio continues to play a vital role in spreading information and needs to be revitalized on contemporary lines and its utility cannot be ignored sans development of electronic media.
Radio Pakistan Rawalpindi has played a vital role in national development, preservation of national heritage and culture, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Affairs Irfan Siddique said while addressing the renovation and rehabilitation ceremony of Rawalpindi Radio Station here Thursday.
Recalling his memories he said that he has personal attachment with Rawalpindi Radio station which has contributed in many programmes including drama, literary and art production.
Irfan said that Radio medium is still important and safe from the negative affects of other mediums, saying that it needs to improve its programmes according to the prevailing times.
He said well furnished buildings are not identity of any institution but deliverance of its workers is real identity and recognition. He stressed upon the workers to modernize their programmes to entertain the public with variety of programmes which will help curtail extremism from the society.
He underlined the need to focus on creativeness, research and professionalism. Irfan Siddique appreciated Secretary Information Syed Imran Gardezi’s commitment and dedication saying that he not only worked for improvement of Radio but also addressed the issues of the workers. He said all possible assistance would be provided for improvement of Radio and betterment of its workers.
He stressed the need to accommodate daily wagers and contractual employees and said the government will give a grant in this regard. Secretary Information speaking on the occasion lauded the role of the Special Assistant for betterment of Radio and its workers and said the renovation and rehabilitation work of Rawalpindi Radio has been completed from its own resources and a sum of Rs.12.5 million has been spent.
He demanded of the government for provision of 100 KW Transmitter to upgrade and expand its broadcasting capacity. Director General PBC Saba Mohsin also spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts of Secretary information. She also thanked the Special Assistant for his special interest and attention towards the betterment of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
