Raza Rabbani has agreed to resume his activities as chairman of the Senate after being assured by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the presence of ministers proceedings of the upper house will be ensured in the future.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with Rabbani on Saturday, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the Senate chairman has agreed to resume his work and to call a sitting of the upper house on Monday. He said Rabbani will direct his secretariat to issue a notification in this regard.
Dar said he delivered the prime minister’s assurance that the government will improve bureaucratic hiccups that keep ministers and government departments from replying to senators’ queries to Rabbani. The premier also assured to Senate chairman that the government will make sure ministers maximise their presence in the both houses of parliament during sessions.
