68th Anniversary of China’s Founding Day celebrated
China firmly supports Pakistan’s sovereignty, development: Sun Weidong
China will continue to unswervingly deepen its all-weather strategic partnership with Pakistan by firmly supporting the country’s efforts in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and dignity.
Ambassador of China in Pakistan Mr Sun Weidong said this at a reception marking the 68th anniversary of the Founding Day of People’s Republic of China here at Serena. China supports Pakistan’s development at all levels and will help the country continue its journey to progress and prosperity, he further said while addressing the participants of the National Day ceremony.
One could see federal ministers, ruling and opposition parties’ leaders, diplomats, UN representatives, retired army officers, parliamentarians and friends who had turned up in large number to attend the National Day reception of China. Chairman of Senate Mian Raza Rabbani was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Governor Pubjab Malik Rafiq Rajwana, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Ministers Baligh-ur-Rehman, Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch, Abid Sherali, Pir Aminul Hasanat, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PML-Q’s Ch Shujaat Hussain, Senator Sherry Rehman, Rehman Malik, Lt Gen (Retd) Nasser Khan Janjua, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Sen Talha Mehmood, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Dr Wasim Shehzad, Abdullah Gul, Chairman PAL Dr Qasim Bughio were among the notable guests at the evening. Ambassador Sun Weidong gave a passionate speech at the National Day reception while referring to the guests who had come from all walks of life. This shows China and Pakistan friendship is above any political or individual interests and China believes in equality and sovereignty of all nations, he said.
Giving an outline of China’s enormous economic growth, Ambassador Weidong said China was the second largest economy of the world. “In the first half of this year, China registered 6.9pc growth and the country in recent years contributed 30pc of annual global economic growth.” My country believes in equality of all nations and states and by opening our economy, we’re offering the external world a win-win situation. Mr Sun Weidong also shared China’s political, economic and social reforms and the strides his country is making under President Xi Jinping’s leadership. “Next month, Communist Part of China is holding historic 19th National Congress on October 18 and at that forum the country would decide reforms on building (i) a modern prosperous society by 2020 and (ii) modern socialist country in the middle of this century.”
A prosperous and strong China can ensure peace in the world, said Mr Sun Weidong and China is alive to its role in that regard. On Belt & Road Initiative, he said China’s vision is that of community of shared prosperity. Sun Weidong was quite unequivocal when he spoke about Pak-China relations. Our past, present and future are marked by strong relations as neighbours, friends and brothers. He referred to President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan in 2015 saying, “President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to Pakistan and opened the golden age of grand development of China-Pakistan relations. In recent years, we witnessed frequent high-level exchanges between China and Pakistan.
