Qualifying Chess Masters awarded

Karachi—Qualifying Chess Masters including Five male and as many female were awarded with cash prizes and trophies in the closing ceremony of Pakistan National Chess Championship held Thursday evening.
Sindh Ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Fayaz Ali Butt distributed prizes among Chess Masters and participants of Pakistan National Chess Championship on conclusion of the championship Thursday .
Chess Masters would compete in 42nd Chess Olympiad to be held from September 1-14,2016 in Baku, Azerbhaijan in which teams from 175 countries are participating.
The 69 male Chess Masters participated in 30th Pakistan National Chess Championship held from 5-12 May at Karachi Gymkhana and only five had qualified.
They were Masters Lodhi Mahmood and Dr. Murtaza Ali from Punjab, Wahid Hussain from Sindh, Syed Ahmed Ali from Punjab and Muhammad Salman Farooqi from Sindh.
In the same way, as many as 19 female players participated in 5th Pakistan Women National Chess Championship held from 8-12 May at Karachi Gymkhana and only five qualified.
They were Begum Ghazala from Sindh, Saira Rafique from Punjab, Wasif Zenobia from Sindh, Mehak Gul from Punjab, Nameeqa Tun Nabi Ul Ummi from Punjab.
Both National Chess Championships were held under swiss system.
Participants were from Sindh, Punjab, KPK, Baluchistan, HEC, PIA, Pak Railways,WAPDA, NBP and NHA but players from Sindh and Punjab have qualified.
Representatives of Pakistan Chess Association (PCA) Waqar Madani, Umer Khan and others were present on the occasion.—APP
