Lahore—Non-qualified and quack dentists are a great threat to human health and life. It has been noticed that the Assistant Technicians and Hygienists working with dental surgeons at dental clinics have been treating the patients as a qualified dentist, and putting their health at great risk.
These views were expressed by the experts at a high level meeting of Pakistan Dental Council and Punjab Dental Council in Lahore on Friday. Dr. Rana Zafar, Secretary Punjab Dental Council while addressing the meeting pointed out that the Punjab Healthcare Commission is taking actions against quacks working in the dental healthcare, which is an important step to top this tragedy.
These Assistant Technicians and Hygienists are not allowed legally and are not competent to treat the patients. The Registration and Licensing of these healthcare establishments is one of the remedy to address the issue, he added.
Professor Dr. Waheed-ul Hameed, Principal Dental College Lahore and Ex-President of Pakistan Dental Association said that qualified dentists should serve in rural areas which will replace with the practices of quicks in this field. These quacks often use the name of a qualified surgeon on their sigh-board to misguide innocent patients, he added.
Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Chief Operating Officer Punjab Healthcare Commission, while addressing the participants informed the Commission, during last two months registered 850 doctors including 67 dental surgeons to check quackery in dentistry.
