Punjab willing to amend WPB

Islamabad—Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that government is willing to amend Women Protection Bill (WPB), therefore leadership of religious organizations and clerics should come forward to inform the government with their recommendation and suggestions for the bill.
Talking to clerics and mashaykh of different schools of thought and religious sects in a meeting here on Friday, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said that Punjab government is willing to amend ‘Women Protection Bill’, therefore clerics and religious organizations instead of resorting to protests will should give their suggestions and recommendations to amend ‘Women protection Bill.
The meeting was attended by senior clerics of different religious sects and religious organizations including Sahin-zada Zahid Mehmood Qasmi, Maulana Ayub Safdar, Hafiz Muhammad Amjad, Maulana Asad Ullah Farooq, Maulana Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Mushtaq Lahori, Maulana Abdul Qayum and scores of other senior clerics and religious scholars.
Briefing the Ulemas on Thursday’s (24th March) meeting between ‘Ulema Committee’ and government representatives, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Ashrafi said that it was agreed in successive meetings of Ulema Committee with Govt reps that amendment will be made in ‘WPB’ according to suggestions of Ulemas in connivance of Quran-o-Sunnah and Constitution of Pakistan adding that it was also conveyed to Ulemas and clerics that all their suggestions.
