Lahore—Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Monday chaired emergency meeting of deans, registrar, RO-1, RO-2, CSO, Chairman Hall Council, Director Students Affairs and Acting Treasurer to review security arrangements in the wake of recent blast at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park.
The meeting started with offering Fateha for the victims of the terrorist attack. Condemning the terrorist attack, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that terrorists could not demoralize our nation by such cowardly attacks.
He said that it could not be ruled out that this attack was connected with the arrest of RAW agent. He instructed the officials concerned to ensure strict security measures and asked the deans to meet all heads of departments of their respective faculties. Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran visited various places at campus to review security arrangements.
Meanwhile Punjab University Academic Staff Association has strongly condemned Associated Press of America and its reporter Zarar Khan over defaming Pakistan through misleading and biased reporting of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park terrorist attack.
In a press statement issued after its executive body meeting, PU ASA President Prof Dr Sajid Rashid and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain said that any innocent human being of any religion or sect was equally important and Islam termed killing of a single human being as killing of the whole mankind.
However, they said, the headline and the content of the news story filed by Associated Press of America regarding the blast had given misleading impression in order to damage the image of Pakistan that only Christians had been targeted on the eve of Easter.
They said that according to facts, almost ninety per cent of the people who died in the cowardly attack were Muslims and this fact had been deliberately ignored in the news report of American news agency. Hence, it is evident that an attempt has been made to defame Pakistan that minorities were not safe in Pakistan while the fact is that Pakistan government and nation always stood with the minorities as equal citizen of Pakistan.
