Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has urged the scientists to help our society and our people must get benefit from our inventions.
He was addressing the first three-day international meeting of scientists titled Science and Society organized by Centre for High Energy Physics here on Thursday. CHEP Director Dr Bilal Masud, faculty members, scientists and students were present on the occasion. The meeting is a unique idea in which scientists from the fields of both natural and behavioral sciences are participating.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that PU was taking several scientific initiatives which would contribute to the development of urban and rural economy. He said that PU would take lead in socio-economic development of Pakistan. He said that the poor nation was spending huge money on us to make us scientists and now it was our responsibility to pay the poor people back through inventions which could boost their socio-economic conditions. He said that PU would organize science fair soon and youth and society would also be engaged in the fair. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Bilal said that this was a great opportunity for the scientists and students to interact with the scientists of other disciplines. He said that the meeting would be helpful in resolving national issues.
Moreover, Punjab University Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG) in collaboration with National Accountability Bureau organized a seminar to create awareness among students against corruption at Al Raazi Hall here on Thursday. MMG Chairperson Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri, NAB Director Maj (r) Ghulam Rasool, Additional Director NAB Muhammad Zahid, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Maj (r) Ghulam Rasool said that no nation could prosper without eliminating corruption at all levels.
He said that corruption was one of the major problems of Pakistan. He said that we must raise voice and NAB was trying its best to create awareness against it. Later, MMG Chairperson Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri led an awareness walk to create awareness against corruption from Al Raazi Hall. Students were carrying placards and banners inscribed with anti-graft slogans. The walk concluded outside Vice Chancellor’s office where PU VC Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir addressed the participants of the rally and appreciated their efforts to create awareness against the menace.
