PTI’s Naeem and PAT’s Gandapur exchange insults

Islamabad—The brawl between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesman Naeemul Haq and Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) Secretary-General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur Thursday at the Supreme Court speaks volumes about the bitterness between the two parties in the aftermath of Nov 2 aborted sit-in.
Two days earlier, on Tuesday, the PAT Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri had expressed his disapproval of Imran Khan’s decision to change the “Lockdown Plan” to “Thanksgiving Day” by reciting a verse from the Holy Quran “Inna Lillah-e-Wa Inna Ileh Rajeoon,” usually recited on hearing news of someone’s death.
The Thursday’s war of words between Naeemul Haq and Gandapur showed PAT’s distrust and disappointment with Imran Khan’s change of heart.
It all started when media was anxiously waiting for Imran Khan to come out of the Supreme Court’s Court No.1 after the hearing on the Panama case and give a usual media talk.
The rostrum was already occupied by PTI leaders and Sheikh Rashid as well as Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. Naeemul Haq, the PTI chief’s man, sensing there was no room for his leader asked Gandapur to move away from the rostrum and make way for his leader Imran Khan who was about to come and address media. Gandapur was taken aback by the arrogance of Naeemul Haq.
However, he was going to vacate the place when the impatient Naeem almost pushed him aside.
Sheikh Rashid the Awami Muslim League leader came into action and prevented the uncalled for situation from getting worse.
However, before they could do anything to cool down the situation the PAT leader started spitting fire. He used foul language against Naeem and Imran Khan as well.
Before Naeemul Haq could respond he asked Sheikh Rashid who the man was. Sheikh Rashid sympathetically told him he was misbehaving with the secretary-general of PAT.
After this Naeemul turned his back towards Gandapur (literally) and began reading text messages from his cell phone. Gandapur continued with his verbal attack. Sheikh Rashid finally prevailed on him and took him away.
Later, the PAT’s spokesman in a statement condemned Naeemul Haq’s behaviour at the Supreme Court and questioned his eligibility to become PTI’s spokesman who couldn’t even recognize an important ally of his party.
Naeemul Haq also in a statesman called upon PAT’s chief Dr Tahirul Qadri to educate his party senior leader how to behave in public.
