Protest in Banihal against torture in custody

Jammu

In occupied Kashmir, scores of men belonging to the Gujjar community held a protest rally in Banihal area of Ramban district in Jammu region against torture in police custody on community leader, Talib Hussain.
Talib Hussain had spearheaded the campaign for justice for the victim of gang-rape-and-murder, eight-year-old Aasifa Bano of Kathua.
The protesters gathered at Municipal Park in Banihal and took out the protest rally. They were also raising slogans against the BJP and the former so-called minister, Lal Singh, and demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident. Talib Hussain is currently lodged in Samba Police Station in a fake case.
The protesters later staged a sit-in inside the premises of Tehsildar office in Banihal. The protesters said that Talib was implicated in a fake case to avenge his campaign for justice for Aasifa.
Talib Hussain who was arrested last week was tortured in Samba police station while on police remand. His skull has been broken, and currently admitted in a local hospital for treatment. He is a key witness in the Kathua gang-rape-and-murder case.—KMS
