Proper irrigation of date orchids vital to enhance yield

Date growers advised to irrigate the date orchids as during the month of August, water and other nutritional needs of the plants get high.
A spokesman of the Punjab Agriculture Department said Wednesday that growers must irrigate the date orchids with an interval of 7 to 8 days, keeping in view weather conditions.
Irrigation helps to reduce temperature of the land, which not only boosts the growth of fruit but also improves its quality.
Newly planted saplings should be irrigated every second day so that plants remain protected from negative impact of hot weather.
Anti weed campaign started which will continue till August 7 with an aim to create awareness
regarding removal of weeds to boost the yield of different crops.
A spokesman of the Agriculture department said Wednesday, the campaign had been started on the direction of Punjab Agriculture Secretary Wasif Khursheed.
Under the campaign, committees have been formed at village level so that growers could be made aware about the negative impact of the weeds.
Some weeds could be very harmful for humans, animals and aquatic creatures so during the campaign agriculture department would create awareness among people in schools, colleges, offices, public and private places.
Awareness walk would also be organized at tehsil and district levels.
Additional Secretary Agriculture (Task Force) hoped that people would support agriculture department in making this campaign a success.—APP
