Irfan invites President to attend National Book Day festivities
Adviser to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui on Tuesday invited President Mamnoon Hussain to be chief guest at the inaugural session of the 8th National Book Day i.e. April 22, 2017. National Book Foundation celebrates the day as National Book Day every year to promote a book reading culture in the society and to bring the people close to books and creative activities. President Mamnoon Hussain while thanking the Adviser maintained that befriending a book meant befriending values of tolerance, acceptability and mutual coexistence. And these qualities, he said, played key role in combating terrorism and extremism. He said diversity of a nation is its real beauty and books show us the path towards enjoying and accepting that great quality.
President Mamnoon further said that promotion of literary and educational activities cold help wipe out extremism and anarchy from the society. Mamnoon Hussain emphasized on initiating organized efforts for promotion and revival of book reading culture for the younger generation.
The President said that improvement in the functioning and performance of literary organizations according to their capacity is indeed worth-appreciating. Irfan Siddiqui briefed Mamnoon Hussain about the working and on-going projects of the departments of his division.
The three-day mega book fair could commence from 22nd of this month in Islamabad. During the book day celebrations, general public especially youth will find titles on a vast range of subjects like fiction, history, geography, general books, autobiographies and books for children as well as books on religion. Well-known publishers of the country would set up their stalls at the venue of the book day and offer books on up to 40 pc and in some cases 50pc discount.
Besides mega book fair, highlight of the event would be book reading sessions by the authors/poets themselves. Eminent writers and poets of the country would come and amuse the audience with reading of their masterpieces.
Dialogue with writers and Mushaira will also be the salient features of the National Book Day. Prof Inamul Haq Javed, Managing Director of the NBF has been a driving force behind the successful Book Day celebrations. This year too he has included a number of innovative and interesting segments in the three-day Book Day festivities. A separate section has been allocated for children’s books and the young kids will have their favourite story books and books on other topics at nominal prices, told an official of the NBF.
