Karachi—Several small and big protest demonstrations against the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri caused a massive traffic jam on city’s roads including the busiest thoroughfare Shahrah-e-Faisal on Monday evening.
The protesters chanted slogans against the government and judiciary, they blocked different roads for several hour which caused traffic gridlocks at Shah-rah-e-Faisal, Soldier Bazar and Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road.
Mumtaz Qadri, an Elite Force commando convicted of killing former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, was executed at the Adiala Jail in the wee hours on Monday. Angry supporters of the convict took to the streets forcing shops and businesses to close and public transport to disappear making a strike-like situation in certain areas of Karachi. Motorists and commuters in public transport vehicles remained stuck for hours while some took to social media to express their anger.
