TEXPO Pakistan attracts global textile players

KCCI, PCCHK sign MoU to enhance cooperation

Karachi—Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan while inaugurating the first ever exhibition focused on textile sector of Pakistan has expressed his confidence that the TEXPO Pakistan is a land mark achievement in the textile industry of Pakistan and would help accelerating Pakistan textile products in the world market. The Guest of Honour, Commerce Minister for Sri Lanka, Rishad Bathiudeen Commerce Minister of Sri Lanka was the guest of honor on the occasion. The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan, organized the 1st ever product specific exhibition in Pakistan by the name of TEXPO 2016. Speaking on the occasion Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir said that this international textile exhibition TEXPO 2016 is a specialized initiative on part of TDAP for the promotion of business opportunities for the most significant and potent sector of Pakistan, the textile industry.
Overall 230 major companies, who are the leading exporters of Pakistan, have setup 320 stalls in 4 exhibition Halls and over 450 foreign buyers/ importers from around 60 countries are visiting TEXPO 2016. Pakistan’s leading Textile brands like Gul Ahmed, Chen One, Sapphire, Shariq Textile, Shabbir Textile, Kohinoor, Global Apparel, Digital Dura Print, Surti International, Sitara Textile etc have set up customized stalls in Hall 2. Fashion Council Pakistan along with the top designers like Farida Qureshi, Sanam Chaudhry, Zainab Chhotani, Amir Adnan, Shamail Ansari, Wardha Saleem, Shehla Chatoor and Zaheer Abbas are showcasing their latest collection.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Pakistan Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong (PCCHK) Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which focuses on exploring the markets in Hong Kong and providing assistance to increase Pakistan’s exports and further improving the existing bilateral trade between the two countries. The MoU was signed by President KCCI Younus Muhammad Bashir and Vice President PCCHK Dr. Ellen Lau at KCCI Pavilion established at the TEXPO Pakistan which is currently underway at Karachi Expo Center. President KCCI Younus Muhammad Bashir, Senior Vice President KCCI Zia Ahmed Khan, Vice President KCCI Muhammad Naeem Sharif and KCCI Managing Committee held numerous meetings with delegates from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Spain, Portugal, and Kazakhstan.
A 5-member delegation from Hong Kong, which was led by Consul General of Pakistan in Hong Kong Ghufran Memon, expressed keenness to build institutional linkages between the two countries whereas the MoU signed between KCCI and PCCHK should not be just paperwork and it must be transformed into something doable. The Indonesian delegation led by Vice Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mufti Hamka expressed keenness to enhance trade and business ties with Pakistani businessmen and industrialists particularly those associated with garments manufacturing, fashion industry, cotton fiber, synthetic fiber, bedsheets and cotton yarn etc.
They said that the business community of Karachi can also benefit from Indonesia’s massive population by setting up their units in Indonesia where they can get many facilities including cheaper electricity. Furthermore an 8-member delegation from Spain led by Commercial Counselor of Pakistan’s Embassy in Spain Faiz Ahmed, during its meeting with KCCI Office Bearers and Managing Committee members, informed that they have been enjoying excellent trade and business ties with their counterparts in Pakistan and were looking forward towards further improving their business with their counterparts in Karachi which was the key reason they were encouraged to participate in TEXPO Pakistan.
