Pakistan Peoples Party struggling to rehabilitate itself in the country’s biggest province of Punjab, has decided to adopt an aggressive strategy against the PML(N) government of Nawaz Sharif.
This, according to sources here, was decided in a meeting of party’s stop brass at Bilawal House in Lahore, where the party will launch a street campaign with the twin objective to mobilise its workers, and regain its lost prestige in a province better known as bastion of power.
It has to seek a new birth after humiliation in the last general elections of 2013. Before that the party was in power for five years, winning on sympathy vote after the assassination of its leader Benazir Bhutto.
But during the five years it was in the saddle, it did little for the country, for which it had to pay a heavy price.
These sources said that Bilwal would lead rallies and public gatherings across Punjab whereas Asif Ali Zardari would deploy his political skills behind the screen. Furthermore, PPP has decided to initiate immediate contacts with other political giants for seat adjustment.
Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, Aitzaz Ahsan, CH Ahmad Mukhtar, Nawaz Khokar, Samina Khalid and several other leaders participated in consultative meeting.
Sources privy to development revealed that PPP would adopt aggressive political strategy for establishing themselves as ‘real opposition’.
In first stage, PPP will hold rallies on division level and later on district level. Asif Ali Zardari would directly monitor matters pertaining to seat adjustment and consultation with other parties.
