The PPP Human Rights Cell Central Coordinator Dr Nafisa Shah has expressed grave concern over the disappearance of Peoples Party workers and aides of former President Asif Ali Zardari in the last few days.
According to various reports a former Sindh Advisor Nawab Leghari and his cousin Ashfaq Leghari are missing from Islamabad while Ghulam Qadir Marri and his managers Khan Mohammad Mangi, Sajjad Arainand his driver Mehmoob Khaskheli have been picked up from Sindh.
“All signs point to these being cases of ‘enforced disappearances’ – the mysterious way in which they have disappeared reminds us of the bloggers that were earlier taken and all signs pointed out to the subsequent involvement of the federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies which are directly answerable to the ministries under the federal government.
“The Minister Interior therefore has responsibility to either produce these people before the courts, or to inform the people about their whereabouts and his efforts in their recovery,” says Dr Nafisa Shah
She also added that “It seems that federal government has let loose politics of vendetta on political basis and PPP Human Rights cell believes that such methods are being used prior to elections to intimidate the party leadership. Such strong-arm tactics are dangerous and will only weaken people’s faith in democracy.
“The Cell urges that the missing persons are recovered by the LEAs working under Minister Interior on an urgent basis.”
