Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Kh. Salman Rafique has said that Punjab Public Health Agency (PPHA) will play an effective role for improving public health, effective disease control, preparing of Disease Data Bank, planning according to the needs of public health and capacity building of experts. He said that disease surveillance and response unit would also be set up at provincial level.
He stated this while chairing a briefing session regarding the working of PPHA, future planning, preparation of disease data bank and improving public health quality in Punjab. Chief Executive of PPHA Dr. Shabnam briefed the Minister, Special Secretary Specialized Healthcare Dr. Sajid Mahmood Chauhan, Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah University Prof. Dr. Amir Nauman Khan, Deputy Secretary (Technical) Dr. Mohsin and other officers attended the briefing session.
The meeting discussed the repositioning of Institute of Public Health, creation of opportunities for higher education in public health, capacity-building of public health experts, provision of career opportunities, producing of high quality nurses and allied health professionals and job opportunities for them.
Dr. Shabnam briefed the Minister about the setting up provincial disease surveillance and response unit. She said that different sub units including knowledge unit, data depositing unit, research unit etc. would be set up under the provincial disease surveillance and response unit. She said that all the experts and technical facilities would be provided under one roof for disease surveillance.
Kh. Salman Rafique said that accurate data of disease prevalence is essential for better planning, effective dengue control and improving the public health facilities. He said that without correct data bank of disease load effective disease control and future planning according to the needs of public health is difficult. He directed that district health development centers should also be strengthened for providing training opportunities for public health experts. He said that effective planning and good solution would not be possible without knowing the seriousness of the issue.
