Peshawar—Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Tuesday said the traditional family structures in Pakistan were far stronger than those followed in the West hence we must not follow the west in safeguarding the women rights.
“The family structures in the West had broken down and we must not copy the West but stick to our own values”. Imran observed while addressing a large gathering of intellectuals, students and women at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University to mark the International Women day.
He quoted the Quaid-e-Azam which says “No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.” The PTI chief said that his mother was his greatest inspiration. He vowed to empower women and protect their rights. Imran also expressed the need to pass women-friendly laws. “In Pakistan, a woman who gets a divorce has nowhere to go. They are just thrown out.”
Earlier answering to public questions live on a private TV channel along with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak , Imran Khan warned that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would turn controversial if the shortest route (Western Route) was not completed first.
Imran alleged that Sharif brothers were not involving the Chief Ministers of other provinces in CPEC related meetings and that the federal government was keeping the facts and details regarding CPEC projects in dark. Imran said that they will soon visit China on the invitation of Chinese Ambassador
Elaborating the importance of peace in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan said that peaceful FATA would be our first defense against militants and other anti-state elements. The PTI chief said that for peace in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, peace in FATA is necessary.
