Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that it is imperative to alleviate poverty to overcome the menace of terrorism and fanaticism. In his message issued on the International Day for Eradication of Poverty, he said the day was observed to highlight the importance of rights of the low-income families. This day provides with an opportunity to launch steps for eradication of problems of people, facing different socio-economic discrepancies.
In his message, the CM said that Islam encourages its followers to help and support the needy as poverty results in creating different law and order problems. Similarly, the menace of poverty can be lessened to a large extent by eradicating economic disparities and ensuring equitable distribution of resources between different segments of the society. He stressed the need for adopting different steps in an organized manner to eradicate poverty from society.
For the purpose, effective steps, along with a coordinated strategy, are needed to lessen the societal problems relating to poverty. He said that revolutionary steps have been taken to overcome the issue of poverty and lakhs of low income families are benefiting from the welfare-oriented programmes of the Punjab government.
Bringing improvement in the lifestyle of the people is important agenda of the government as it is proactively working to eradicate poverty and improve the standard of life of the masses.
He said the role of religious scholars, media and the Ulema is very important for the elimination of disparity, and it is the message of this day that every person should play its role for the elimination of poverty, deprivation and disparity from the society, concluded the Chief Minister.
