Poverty and corruption

Adeera Afzal

Is poverty a cause of corruption also? The answer would be yes. Corruption is much a symptom of poverty as it is cause. Corruption is also a major determinant of poverty, a consequence of poverty as well. Corruption is a factor of low income, poverty, frustration etc. Corruption and poverty unfortunately go hand-in-hand, threatening the lives of too many people and the only way out is through reliance on bribes and illegal payments to access basic, fundamental services such as telecommunications, electricity and more. In this situation for the poor corruption is the only way of life. Corruption is more widespread in the countries where there is economic deprivation. Given that poor people cannot access opportunities unless they resort to corruption. It remains the only situation in a society where the administration is ineffectual, the policies are not implemented and the poor are not take care of.
