Charge d’ affaires of Portugal in Islamabad Joao Sabido Costa and Mrs Maria Gloria hosted a reception in the federal capital to mark Portuguese national day. A large number of guests including diplomats, civil and military officials and prominent people from various segments of society graced the reception. Federal Minister for Human Rights Mr Kamran Michael was the chief guest on the occasion to join the Portuguese Charge d’ affaires and his spouse in cutting the ceremonial cake. National anthems of Pakistan and Putogal were played to the applause of the guests.
Addressing the ceremony Portuguese Charge d’ affaires spoke of friendly and cordial relations that exist between Pakistan and his country. The two countries are closely cooperating with each other in a number of areas. He expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries will increase to a greater extent with the passage of time.
The federal minister Mr. Kamran Michael in his reciprocal address expressed the same sentiments. He said he was impressed by hospitality of Portuguese people during his recent visit to Lisbon. He said there are vast possibilities of closer cooperation between the two countries.
Portugal in the current world order may not be in much limelight but it remained a leading world power in the medieval period when the Portuguese seamen ruled over seas and Portugal’s fleet was on conquering spree.
Portugal today is a liberal and progressive democracy in the fold of European Union. It attracts large number of world tourists who keenly visit its historical and cultural sites.
