‘Police extorts Rs600 from each Peshawar-bound public van’

Islamabad—In a startling revelation a petitioner has approached the Islamabad High Court against ‘extortionist’ police of Islamabad claiming each Peshawar-bound vehicle from Islamabad’s bus stops has to pay Rs600 to local police.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court while taking up the case on Thursday issued notices to SSP Islamabad, SHO Tarnol and Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on the transporter’s petition.
He alleged that they (police) are charging through a middleman from the transporters. The petitioner through its counsel Ishaq Ahmed Hunjra Advocate adopted before the IHC that a person Shoaib Niazi has been extorting money from the Islamabad transporters charging Rs600 per vehicle every day.
In case, a transporter refuses to pay the extortion money, he with the help of the police, impounds his vehicle and locks it in the police station. IHC bench has directed the above said officials to submit reply in ten days.
