PM directs ministry to ensure zero loadshedding during sehr, iftar

PESCO restores electricity in Nowshera despite collapses of 23 transmission towers; Distt Astore enjoying zero loadshedding
Islamabad—Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed the Ministry of Water and Power to ensure no power outage at the timings of Sehr and Iftar.
The directive for uninterrupted power supply will be uniformly implemented for urban and rural areas.
The Prime Minister asked his Office to strictly monitor the timings of loadshedding, the PM’s Office said.
Meanwhile, talking to Radio Pakistan, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that there would be no load shedding during Sehar and Iftar timings in Ramazan. He said electricity shortfall has reduced to 4,000 watts. Khawaja Asif said the government has closed some plants that produce expensive electricity, which can also be operationalized if a need arises. He said there are hundreds of feeders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where zero loadshedding is being observed.
The annual fasting month of Rama-zan is expected to begin Tuesday in Pakistan. Most of the Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa are already observing Ramazan today (Monday). During Ramazan, Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking from dawn to dusk. They break the fast with a meal known as Iftar and before dawn they have a second opportunity to eat and drink during Sehar.
Peshawar: Chief Executive Pesco, Awnarul Haq Yousafzai visited Khairabad, Jahangira, Akora Khattak and Nowshera City and inspected areas where 23 transmission towers were collapsed due to heavy storm and rains few days ago.
The PESCO staff, despite collapse of so many towers, restored power supply in the affected areas through alternate sources.
These alternate sources, however, are not capable enough to bear heavy load and PESCO was compelled to carryout additional load-shedding on 11 KV Khushhal Khan Khattak,Tubewell, Akora Khattak-1, 2 and other slinked feeders. The Pesco management has sought cooperation of people. Later on, the PESCO chief visited Nowshera City grid station and inspected rehabilitation work on affected feeders and hailed the staff’s performance for completing the work on urgent basis.
The cooperation of people was sought till completion of the remaining work. Engr Youafzai ensured comple-tion of restoration work shortly.
Meanwhile, Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has announced that it would not carryout power load shedding during the times of Sehri, Iftari and Travih in the pro-vincial capital Quetta and all districts headquarters of Balochistan.
A spokesman for QESCO said, here on Monday evening that following the instructions of Ministry of Water and Power, during the holy month of Ramzan, no electricity load shedding will be carried out in Quetta and all district headquarters during the times of Sehri, Iftari and Travih.
He, however, said that six hours daily load shedding would be carried out during the remaining time.
Astore: Executive Engineer Water and Power Astore, Fayyaz Alam said that there is no loadshedding in the district.
Talking to media here Monday he said that there is no shortage of electricity in district and the people are supplied 24 hours electricity.
He informed that Louse Power Stations, Doyan Power Station, Rattu Power Station and Perishing Power Sta-tion are supplying the electricity to the areas of Astore. He said that the loadshedding is imposed in the district in the months of January and February due to shortage of water and this loadshedding is imposed for only 2 hours over 24 hours.
He further told that four power projects are under construction in Astore and the electricity problem will be resolved forever after the completion of these projects.—APP
