Plantation of trees

Khazina Khalid

Plants and trees are intimately connected with our life and well-being. Boons and benefits derived from them are too many to count. They provide shelter, food, fruit, fodder, wood, timber, medicine, oxygen; check soil- erosion, pollution and floods. They also check very effectively the spread of the desert and landslides. They are essential to maintain ecological balance and preservation of fauna. Trees add to the quality to our life and living. Without trees and forests there would be deserts and desolation all around us. But with development of residential colonies and housing projects as well as building of flyovers and other construction activity in Karachi, trees have been chopped off on a large scale. One is almost unable to find a shade to protect oneself from atrocious weather. Above all, air pollution caused by traffic and over industrialization lead to various diseases. Sometime back, people on their own had started growing plants but the govt remained/remains indifferent to this issue. I request indulgence of the provincial government in this matter to make our life better.
