Plan devised to curb road robberies during Ramazan

Karachi—Authorities have decided to deploy more than 12,000 police personnel to deal with mobile snatching and robberies during traffic gridlocks in Karachi, Samaa reported Tuesday.
According to sources, authorizes have witnessed an unusual increase in street crimes, especially robberies and mobile snatching during traffic jam at busy commercial areas of the city.
To collar the street crooks, sources say, more than 12,000 personnel will be deployed on various main roads, mosques, shopping centres and at different market places. Under the plan, officials said 250 traffic policemen, 650 City Wardens and 11,000 Operation Policemen will perform patrolling duties.
During Ramazan, more number of makeshift stalls on main roads selling food items and the vehicles parked haphazardly create massive traffic jams in the evening as everybody hurries up to reach home before sunset for iftar.
Various intersections, where motorists and commuters get trapped in a deluge of traffic, remain closed for several hours.
