PHF felicitates newly appointed Sports Board DG

Lahore—Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Brig (Retd) Khalid Khokhar and Secretary Shahbaz Ahmad have felicitated Zulfiqar Ghuman on his appointment as Sports Board Punjab Director-General.
The two officials expressed the hope here on Tuesday that the standard and infrastructure of sports in general and hockey in particular in the province would improve under his leadership.
It is worth mentioning that hockey has been Ghuman’s special love. He has had a distinguished hockey career during his student days, representing teams of prestigious institutions including Government College Lahore and the Punjab University.
“We hope that efforts would be made from the Sports Board Punjab platform to take sports to new heights in the province,” they added. Meanwhile, it is reported that President PHF, Brig (R) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Secretary PHF, Shahbaz Ahmed have expressed their grief over the passing away of the father of Hassan Sardar, Pakistan’s former captain and the legendary centre forward.
Hassan Sardar ranked among game’s all-time greats, played a stellar role in Pakistan hockey’s remarkable successes of the first half of the 80s.
Pakistan won the 1982 World Cup, 1984 Olympics, 1982 Asia Cup and 1982 Asian games.
Hassan won the Player of the Tournament award at all the four events and scored in each of the finals as well.
President and the secretary prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the departed soul with eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss.—APP
